About this list

A Munich chess club is a registered association, a Verein, and nearly every one listed here belongs to the Schachbezirk München, the Munich district of the Bayerischer Schachbund. Each club has a Spielabend, a weekly club evening with a fixed room and hour, where members play friendly games, train and prepare for the team championship. Few clubs own their rooms: they meet in seniors' centres such as ASZ Sendling and ASZ Westend, in parish halls, in the Pelkovenschlössl in Moosach or in inns such as the Herterich Stuben in Solln.

Beyond the city boundary the list follows the clubs into the Landkreis München and the neighbouring towns: the Bürgerhaus in Garching, the Adolf-Hölzel-Haus in Dachau, the Hillebrandhof in Ismaning, the Ara-Center in Neubiberg and the Stadthalle in Germering, and on to Haar, Unterhaching, Grasbrunn, Gräfelfing, Freising and Fürstenfeldbruck. The school chess groups of Garching, Kirchheim and the Gisela-Gymnasium are filed as clubs too, although only their own pupils can join.
