Bar chess in Munich is organised from outside the bars. ChessBar München, a group that lists its events on Meetup, plays a weekly rapid tournament of five short rounds in three places: on Monday evenings at Boazn Bar beside the Ludwigsbrücke, on Saturday afternoons at Alter Simpl in Türkenstraße and on Sunday afternoons at Gehölz in Schellingstraße. Players register through the group's app, and each bar expects at least one drink to be ordered.
On Monday evenings the Chess in Munich Meetup group gathers at Café am Beethovenplatz in Goethestraße, where pairs agree on their own pace and time control. In all four places a game needs no club membership.
