About this list
Little chess in Munich is free in the strict sense: a club asks a membership fee, a tournament an entry fee, and even the weekly bar rapids of ChessBar München expect each player to order a drink. Three places state no charge at all.
The outdoor board at the corner of Rotbuchenstraße and Am Bienstock in Harlaching is open to everyone; its pieces are not kept there, and the Münchener Schachclub 1836 announces shared playing dates when its members are there. The course for older people at the Stadtbibliothek Schwabing, every second Wednesday morning, is free of charge, and the chess department of TSV Forstenried charges no monthly department fee and has free places in every age group.
